Steamed buns are a popular Chinese food. Enjoy this recipe with a unique filling option with ground goat blended with a mix of spices and ingredients to create a flavorful steam bun.
In this recipe you’ll using the steam bun dough recipe and cooking instructions from Nagi at the popular food blog Recipe Tin Eats. She also has a great YouTube video walking through the process as well.
Then you’ll use our goat filling ingredients recipe to make the steamed buns with goat meat.
1/4 cup warm water
1 tsp active dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup warm water
4 tbsp. sugar
2 cups flour
1 cup corn starch
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 pound ground goat
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 tsp. salt
½ large onion, finely diced
¾ tsp. Chinese 5 spice blend
1 tbsp. rice vinegar
2 tbsp. soy sauce or tamari
2 tbsp. oyster sauce
1 tbsp. brown sugar
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ tsp. Black pepper
¼ tsp. fennel seed, whole
1 cup minced cilantro
sliced cucumber
quick pickled carrots
lettuce
spicy mayo
Follow directions from Recipe Tin Eats to make the bun dough.
For filling, sear ground goat in oil, salt, 5 spice blend and with diced onion.
Once goat starts to brown, add in rice vinegar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, brown sugar, black pepper and fennel.
Cool filling, then add in minced cilantro.
Follow Recipe Tin Eats instructions for stuffing the buns and steaming.
