About the Class
Learn about the basics of raising goats, and the different opportunities and uses for this species of livestock, with Leslie Svacina. Leslie raises a growing herd of forty goats on her farm, Cylon Rolling Acres.

Goats are one of the most popular species of livestock across the globe. They’re small in size, take less space to raise, and are fairly easy to handle. Goats have numerous purposes as livestock on the farm or homestead.
The class will focus on the basics of raising goats, such as shelter, feeding, and other animal husbandry practices. Leslie will also touch on what’s needed for rotationally grazing goats on pasture and cover the different opportunities with goats, including meat, dairy, fiber, brush management, and more.

This class will be a good overview for farmers or homesteaders who might be interested in adding goats to their acreage.

About the Instructor
Leslie Svacina owns and operates Cylon Rolling Acres, a grass-based livestock farm near Deer Park, about 10 miles south of Amery. She pasture-raises Boer-Kiko cross goats for meat. Leslie’s herd is rotationally grazed for most of the year and includes about 40 breeding does and is still growing.

Leslie direct markets all of her goat meat through regional wholesale accounts, including Farm Table, and to individual customers locally through order pick up at the farm or nation-wide shipping.

About the Farm Table Foundation
Farm Table Foundation supports soil quality, local farms, healthy food and rural communities. We believe that quality of life is directly impacted by the quality of local soil and an abundance of small farms. We make the connection between farm health and community well-being apparent. Our classes, events, and local food in downtown Amery all serve to highlight a central tenet: how we feed ourselves matters. The Foundation believes local food is fresher, carries more nutrients, keeps us working positively with nature, and provides an endless set of possibilities. The creativity drawn forth to farm and cook well is our eternal engine of ingenuity and culture. Join us in this adventure.
